3/20/12: Laurali Noteman

Emergency Medical Technicians

Some of our more seasoned EMTs. Dilworth Perkins, Shauna Cram and Bill Canning. We will be holding an open house to say thanks to our EMTs and wishing Bill the best after serving as an EMT for over 30 years, Tues. March 27th at 6PM in the hospital lobby.

It is said they run for money, well that’s not exactly what does the trick.

Oh they do get paid a stipend, but that is simply not what makes them tick.

Some say they have a deep and profound desire to help those in need.

I am sure that’s what brings them out, they want to help with that good deed.

They spend hours going to classes, reading about blood, guts and gore,

Then their interest begins to grow and a flicker starts in their core.

They study all the books. They take tests and then play at extrication,

They set up each scenario to cover every situation.

Now they have passed their tests and clinicals as well,

They are now on the roster waiting for the bell.

And now we are finally getting to what it’s really all about

They have become adrenaline junkies, there simply is no doubt.

They listen to the pager as it crackles out its call,

They grab their keys, throw on their shoes, while running down the hall.

The first one to the shed opens up the door,

Warming up the coach then waits there for two more.

The team arrives and buckles in a checklist in their hands

Adrenaline helps them focus as they calmly make their plans.

They respond to the scene taking vitals and calling in,

The patient’s ride to KCH is about to begin.

They deliver their patient with utmost care, with calm and empathy,

They restock the coach, clean her up, fill her tank and make her run ready.

Then our truly dedicated, go back from where they came,

To home or work or back to bed it’s never quite the same,

They weather storm or darkness and all conditions on the way,

We appreciate the time they gave, and lives helped saved that day.

So here’s to adrenaline seekers we’re glad that you are there,

Thank you for the time you give and your lives you choose to share.
