In July 2011, our Radiology Tech. Lori Ramsay began the process of collecting bids on a new CAT Scan machine. We purchased the current machine in 2004 and at that time it was the envy of southern Utah facilities. We were the first to have a “duel slice” CAT Scan.
Medical equipment is right up there with electronics. It is going out of date while it's sitting in the loading dock. So our duel slice machine is going to live at a veterinarian's clinic and we are getting a new 16 slice CAT Scan.
The old unit which measured approximately 6' tall, 8' long and 2' wide with a bench of 10 feet and weighing approximately 2,000 pounds, took a lot of strong men, a pallet jack from Lumber Plus and one of Ramsay's car haulers to get it out of Radiology and loaded into a truck.
The entire process is expected to be completed by January 23. That process includes replacing floor tiles, installing additional lead lined sheet rock, and of course a new paint job to brighten up the room.
The new system will include a power injector, Duel Head Invision system. This will allow contrast scans to be more diluted with saline and easier on the patients.
We have a mobile CAT Scan unit on the hospital campus to continue to take care of patient needs until the new CT Scan is set up and has been properly calibrated..
