The above ladies successfully completed 40- hour Rape Crisis Advocacy Training in May of 2009. They were recognized at the October combined meetings of the Domestic Violence Coalition, the Local Interagency Council, and the Local Emergency Preparedness Council.
Rachel Lloyd-Jenkins, RN, MSN, SANE-A from the Utah Coalition Against Sexual Assault was the primary instructor for the course. Some of the topics covered in the training were: Crisis intervention, role of an advocate, survivors, child sexual abuse, PTSD/Mental Health, identity theft, and officer response.
Terra Sue Honey, Jennifer Black, Nadja Mahoney, Lydia Mossi, Michelle Sage and Joretta Stewart have chosen to be victim services volunteers. They will respond when called on a 24/7 call rotation for our community. That is a huge commitment and one that will benefit our area tremendously.
Kane County Hospital sponsored Susanna Evans MA, Cynthia Noteman MA, and Kim Snedeger MA-C. The knowledge this group of women now share will enable the hospital medical staff to better serve our residents and patients.
Sandy Kerr, Coordinator for Victim Services in Kane County is responsible for so much of the training and awareness that has now been brought forward. With her consistent encouragement and participation our county is now more prepared to, "help victims of all crimes."
Kerr added, "There is financial help available in some instances. We can also provide stalking and protective orders at no cost." She has invited anyone interested to attend our next meeting which will be held the second Thursday of each month. The tentative location is the library at 11:00 AM. We are in transition so the location may change, you may call Sandy at 644-4989, Terra Sue at 6443696, or Laurali at 644-4161 to check prior to November 12th.
If you need help or have questions you may call 644-2349 and ask for an advocate. Your call will then be directed to the appropriate responding agency.
